Annual House Singing Competition 2019

Or annual House Singing Competition was a huge success. It was a hotly contested competition with some wonderful solo and group performances. Our winners were Ash house singing Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. Oak house sang ‘Can you imagine that’ from Mary Poppins.

Intergenerational Project Goes Live!

Year 1 were looking forward to their first visit to Tennyson Wharf this morning. On arrival they practised their poems ready for the competition before introducing themselves. Everyone was soon busy making friendship cards and chatting together. Callum asked if they had any pets and Sacha showed them a picture of her dog. After a game of dominoes it was time to head back to school.

From the Languages Department…

This term Lower School have been learning about life under the sea as part of their topic work. In Spanish we have also looked at sea creatures and where they live. We have learned their names in Spanish and read the story of ‘el pez arcoiris’ (the rainbow fish) we recreated the story using masks in year 1 and year 2 made their own shorter version of the story, designing their own pictures to describe the different scenes, which they then performed to the rest of the school in assembly.

How often as parents have we said: "Do as I say..." yet what we do ourselves is often the opposite? I recently came across the above picture and quote and I really couldn't resist the urge to share it with you. Not that I think that I am the perfect parent by any means. I completely understand the battle that we have to limit the time our children spend on electronic devices, yet when I saw this it made me think, what are my children seeing me do?

From the Sports Department…

This term started with the out first official Boys hockey match. Button Hathow have played in several mixed fixtures and tournaments, even winning the ISA midlands tournament back in November but we had never played an all boys fixture. We visited Ranby House at Worksop College, a very strong test to begin with. The BH boys began well and scored early. Ranby pushed us to play at our best. After a great 2nd half the game ended 3-1 to us. A very successful beginning to the season. Well done to Aiden on his first game in goal. The first netball fixture was also at Ranby. We had a training session and an introduction to High 5s Netball. A smaller sided game where every player rotates positions. The girls were fantastic and were compliments by the Ranby Teachers.
