Year 1 and 2 have had a great start to the summer, working on their new topic of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. We have looked at different types of elephants, how they have adapted to their surroundings, made milk carton elephants and have followed the stories of several baby elephants in Africa who have been orphaned and rescued. We have adopted our very own BH elephant, Rapa, and will be following his progress in class as an ongoing piece of work. We have looked at chameleons, and how they use their camouflage super power to survive and have made a giant ‘Kevin the Chameleon’. In Forest School we have thought about animal adaptation, and also what animals need to survive and the class joined with children from Reception to use their team working skills to construct some rib-framed hedgehog houses.
In Literacy we have looked at several contemporary fiction stories and have now moved on to non-fiction text. We have looked at the features of non-fiction text, and have used ipads to research and construct our own insect fact files.
In Maths we have been looking at partitioning numbers, and how we can use this to help us with mental addition and subtraction. We are now looking at measures, including weight, length and time.
Children have enjoyed practising their linguistic skills with their introduction to Italian, and have been retelling the story of Little Red Riding Hood in Spanish with Mrs Gallimore.
The children have loved mini beast hunting with Mrs Burch, and their sketches that they have produced in Art are fantastic. The class have also been getting to grips with the forest Gamelan with Mr Nowell, and have really enjoyed their sessions in the woods with him.
We have really embraced our Motor Mover programme this term, with daily work outs to start the day and are continuing to build on this every week. Fingers crossed we can start to take the sessions outside after half term when the summer weather arrives!
Thank you to all Year 1 and 2 parents for your support this term, we can’t wait to see the children after half term so that we can start to enjoy all the things we have missed as lockdown restrictions start to ease!
Have a super holiday
