This term we hosted our very first BH Chit-Chat, Coffee and Play in the cabin.
For those children starting in the Nursery in the near future, they had the opportunity to come and meet some of the staff and play with a selection of resources within the environment.
It was lovely to be able to see parents and children explore our Nursery and be able to socialise with one another.
We will be holding a Chit-Chat, Coffee and Play every month with a view to inviting and welcoming children new to BH and those in the wider community.
The Nursery team has welcomed some new little members as well as Miss Salmon, who has already been a fabulous addition to the Early Years staffing team.
As the Spring term has progressed, the children have been engaging in activities relating to fairy tales.
Mrs White has introduced a cooking/baking session on a Friday, linking the recipes to the theme of the week. A highlight was locating, cutting and chopping the wild garlic leaves from the forest and then churning our own butter using hand held devices and electric machinery. The children have also made pea wheels for the Princess, gingerbread men, bread for the Little Red Hen and turnip soup.
The Butterflies have been working hard on their letter and number recognition, using their skills to recognise amounts and patterns in the environment. Mark making has taken a particular focus, creating representational recordings to express our ideas.
The Caterpillar’s have loved learning a variety of nursery rhymes and exploring these through music, especially. They particularly enjoyed Incy Wincy Spider, Wheels on the Bus and Humpty Dumpty; making resources to accompany the songs using natural materials as well as lots of box modelling.
We are looking forward to the warmer weather to continue our learning of life cycles and growth.
