This year’s residential trip incorporated a sports tour and a two night stay in our capital city. What a trip it was. The children were so excited and when they arrived on Monday morning to see their luxurious coach, they couldn’t quite believe their eyes. Comfy seats, full air conditioning, screens everywhere – this was not going to be the tedious journey they had been fearing!
First stop, Merton Court Preparatory school, for a hockey tournament. Mr Price, owner and fellow ISA head teacher, welcomed all the children and it was lovely to be able to visit such a fantastic school. The teams were evenly matched, each winning a game followed by a scrummy match tea.
Then onto London for dinner near St. Paul’s Cathedral. That’s where we met our tour guide, Julie. We then had an evening drive by tour of all the landmarks and stopped off for a quick photo opportunity at Buckingham Palace – the King was home!
Back to our hotel, where the children relished in their independence. Lots of fun and chat but very quickly to sleep as they were so shattered from their busy day.
Early start for day two and off to the the Globe for a tour and Hamlet workshop. A walk along South Bank took us to the London Eye where we had the most stunning views over the city. A quick hop, skip and jump and we were at Covent Garden for some souvenir shopping in the bustling markets and enjoyed wonderful street entertainment in the square. The sun shone bright, we were so lucky. Mr Bell and Charlie got really involve with the Street entertainers, each receiving their own round of applause from the crowd.
Then the Lion King to finish off a very busy day. The costumes were out of this world – it was a spectacular show.
The last day involved a trip to the Natural History Museum, where the children were in awe of all that they could see. Then back on the coach for the journey home. A huge thank you to Mrs Oldfied, Mr Bell and Mrs Lyons who accompanied us.
I have been doing residential trips for over twenty years and I have to say that this was by far the best The children were incredibly well-behaved, their manners were impeccable and everywhere we went people commented on how good they were, on top of that they were fabulous company. Well done all. Mrs Ford
