As the spring warmth begins to greet us, we have truly made the most of it at Burton Hathow! Last week was filled with so many highlights for the children, which I am thrilled to share with you.

Year 5 and 6 enjoyed another exciting STEM day. They were joined by Rebecca Chadwick from the Cambridge Science Centre, who led a session focusing on disease management, the development of medicines, and caring for individuals. This helped the children understand the positive impact of their scientific studies and the difference they can personally make in the world.

Led by Mrs Bowden, the nursery team organised a magical WOW event inspired by The Gruffalo. Hosted in our beautiful woodland, children and their parents took part in a range of exciting activities. They made owl ice creams, toasted scrambled snakes, created puppet shows, explored sensory play activities, and enjoyed wonderful arts and crafts. This unique and special event was thoroughly enjoyed by both parents and children.

Reception has been fully immersing themselves in Jack and the Beanstalk. The children planted five magic beans, and their beanstalks have flourished thanks to their efforts. They have also been retelling the story in literacy, using their maths skills to measure their own beanstalks and learning all about what plants need to grow.

Many of the children in school have been enjoying their enrichment time in the forest. This week the lower school have been focussing on den building; developing their team work and problem solving skills.

A huge thank you to all the wonderful Mothers in the Burton Hathow community. To celebrate and show our appreciation, children from Year 1 to 6 carefully crafted beautiful wreaths using willow from our forest, decorating them with flowers and freshly picked rosemary. The care and attention they put into their work were evident in the high-quality wreaths they created.

In our sporting fixtures, the U11 team played with brilliant determination against Wellow, with Poppy scoring two goals and Matilda scoring one. The player of the match, voted for by the opposing team, was Sophie. The U11 football match against Wellow was a close game, finishing in a 1-1 draw, with Ethan taking player of the match.

Finally, Year 3 took part in their reward trip to Bransby Horses, where they enjoyed learning about the important work done to care for the animals. They truly deserved this trip and have continued to work hard in all their lessons.
