In Year 2 this term we have been continuing our Space Topic and Year 2 did a fantastic job of planning and running our ‘Space in the Forest’ morning for the whole of lower school. This included Space Football, Martian Marshmallows, Build a Space Rocket and running a Mars Bar offering children Space themed drinks. Thanks also go to Nusery staff for hot chocolate and pizza planets cooked on the fire.
We have learnt all about telescopes, the Hubble telescope and how this has helped us to learn so much more about space, and in Art children designed and made their own kaleidoscopes with Mrs Burch.
In English we have continued with our Space theme, and after meeting an alien Beegu, we have been looking at a story written by Philippe Cousteau called Follow the Moon Home: A Tale of One Idea, Twenty Kids, and a Hundred Sea Turtles. As part of our Topic work we have learnt all about how the Moon including how it controls the tides. Through this book we discovered what else the Moon controls in nature. Children used the internet to research different animals and produced fact files on their given animal. In Maths this term we have continued to look at addition and subtraction, and have then moved on to multiplication and division. Year 2 are doing so well with their timestables…..
It has been a busy term, with Age on the Stage and the Music and Drama Festival and I would like to say a big thank you to parents for their ongoing support – it makes all the difference and is much appreciated!
