This year’s World Book Day was a truly magical experience, as we stepped into the enchanting world of Alice in Wonderland! The day began with a special assembly where we read the first chapter of the story together. However, just as we were getting immersed in the tale, we received some shocking news. Somebody had stolen the jam tarts for our Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

Determined to solve the mystery, the children set off on an exciting adventure across the school and into the forest, following clues and solving riddles along the way. After much detective work, we finally uncovered the culprit. The Knave of Hearts! Of course, he was sent straight to the Headteacher’s Office, and thankfully, we recovered the missing tarts just in time to enjoy a wonderful Mad Hatter’s Tea Party together in the school grounds.

Throughout the morning, the children took part in a variety of Wonderland-themed activities, using their creativity and imagination to bring the world of Alice to life. These included, developing their own ‘Drink-me’ shrinking potions, designing Mad Hatter top hats and creating their own White Rabbit watches. In the afternoon, the children helped Mr Murphy illustrate one of his own stories, which he hopes to publish one day. It was an incredible opportunity for them to see how books are brought to life, and they loved contributing their artistic ideas.

To round off the day, we held a parade of our fantastic costumes, where we admired the creativity and effort that had gone into every outfit. We also celebrated our love of reading by sharing photographs of the unique and interesting places the children had been caught reading at home. It was also wonderful to see that children brought in books that they had already read to gift to others in the school this highlighted the thoughtful nature of our school community.

Our Alice in Wonderland adventure truly captured the magic of books and storytelling. The children were inspired to explore new literary worlds, embrace their creativity, and most importantly, develop a lifelong love of reading. What a wonderful way to celebrate the power of books!
